Dear Metro/CRUBS/V/line operators,
Two updates
Firstly, and for your information, we were asked to by DOT, and did, put a large order in yesterday for approximately 3 months worth of masks for drivers; (1 litre) hand sanitiser bottles; sanitary wipes; gloves for drivers; and aerosol disinfectant for air conditioner filters.
The intention is DOT can use its contacts to procure such items.
We have been informed by DoT that they have also been talking to the below company (PANKU), who are happy to prioritise individual operators (that’s bus, trains, trams) orders as ‘essential services’, as long as they are for large quantities.
If you need the product below for general business use, please reach out directly to PANKU: 0418 499 808; www.panku.com.au; contact@panku.com.au.
Secondly, BAV has been engaging with DOT and other public transport operators to identify opportunities to support the concept of social distancing on buses so as to provide confidence and comfort to our drivers during this period of change and uncertainty due to the CONVID-19 virus.
[Out of a desire that you are not hit upon by DOT to do things you haven’t heard about file!] DOT have reported that two metropolitan bus operators, Transdev and Ventura, have commenced practices such as cordoning off the front two seats that are adjacent to the driver with tape so as to not allow passengers to sit close to the driver. Some of the Transdev buses with the touch on device located adjacent to the driver have disabled the device with the driver advising customers to use the device at the rear door. There has even been some drivers opening all doors for passenger boarding.
DOT is supporting this in addition to the ban of on on-board top ups and will produce “collateral” shortly to distribute to bus operators to keep a consistent messaging for customers. (But please be aware that DOT says it still requires passengers who travel on Victoria’s public transport network to have a valid ticket.)
The proposed wording from DOT in relation to social distancing specifically for buses will be along the lines of:
Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
Seats unavailable
For the health and safety of our passengers and drivers, we have social distancing measures in place.
We appreciate your understanding as we continue running regular services in this challenging period.
For more information on Coronavirus (COVID-19) and how you can practice good hygiene on the transport network visit: www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus
DOT will send this through the appropriate marketing channels to organisations and BAV will also provide you with any collateral if/when it receives any.
DOT have also advised that if you require any further customer information needs, they are willing to work with you to ensure that a consistent message is used across the network.
DOT will also be able to assist in printing of any information (be aware that it may take a few days to get this through to you).
